CURRENT PROJECTS
Project ideas are generated by board members and further assessed in partnership with nonprofit organizations that operate in the communities that we serve. A formal application process has yet to be established, but please stay tuned for updates as we continue to build out the program.
BUILDING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES CollaborativegIVING TOGETHER |
The inspiration for this collaborative developed as Moniker became aware that rural and/or low-income communities across Colorado often have insufficient access to organic food sources. In partnership with Paonia Soil Co. and local organizations, Moniker brings module gardens and gardening education to rural communities.
Colorado Springs Food Rescue - In the spring of 2019, Moniker partnered with CSFR to bring 9 produce pods to the Hillside Hub Community Project. CSFR is a lead organization in reducing food waste and bringing food sources to food insecure communities. Flying Pig Farm - This year, Moniker's has initiated its first home garden program to combat challenges with programs effected by COVID-19. This year, six students selected from the Manitou School District have become Garden Ambassadors. Each student is responsible for creating, growing, maintaining, and sharing food with their family and neighbors in need. The initiative began as a way to increase collaboration and impact among funders in the Pikes Peak Region. In partnership with the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and seven other local funders, the collaborative provides a space for co-funding among foundations or donor advised funds.
In 2019, we worked alongside seven local funders to provide a $70,000 grant to Fostering Hope in an effort to further support Transitional Housing that provides trauma-informed care for youth and/or families with children transitioning to independent living. The funds supported the Fostering Adulthood Transitional Housing Initiative. Specifically, the funds supported trauma-informed warp-around services for youth residing in three 2-bedroom apartments through a master lease with a multi-unit property owner in Colorado Springs. 30 foster youth at Fostering Hope have been identified as needing transitional housing in the years to come as they age out of the system. |
