Program Updates

2025 Funding Cycle:

The Southwest Region funding cycle will begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. We will be awarding nine (9), $10,000.00 grants, and three (3), $1,000.00 participation grants to account for time and effort spent on the application process.

Continuing in 2025, we are not setting specific invitation or grant quotas for each of the four primary focus areas. This means that in a given year, we may elect to only invite organizations from three of the four primary focus areas to our pitch days and leave one focus area out. This may also mean that only organizations from three of the focus areas receive full grants in a given year. These decisions will be based on perceived community needs, the applications received, the presentations made, and the competition in a given year, or lack thereof. It will not be a decision that can be easily forecasted prior to the review of annual submissions or before presentations, so insight cannot be provided prior to, or during, the application period. It would be very unlikely that we would invite less than three of the four primary focus areas to our pitch days, but the circumstance may occur.

Also, continuing this year, we have implemented the sub-focus funding priorities outlined below (in no particular order) to create further transparency in our decision-making process. These priorities represent the current interests of our regional committee. We will continue to accept applications that do not directly align with these outlined priorities, as long they fit within one of the four primary focus areas. That being said, if you still choose to apply, it is important to understand that your probability for success may be much lower than in previous years. Additionally, it's worth noting that we expect several organizations to fit within the various sub-focus funding priorities, so please understand that this is still a competitive process and there are no guarantees, even if you feel your application makes a strong case. We also recognize and accept that these priorities often overlap and may be applicable in more than one focus area. Although we encourage you to highlight these connections in your application, we ask that you select one primary focus area when you apply and discuss the connections in your case for support.

2025 Sub-Focus Funding Priorities:
  • Early childhood care, education and development (0-6yrs)
  • Afterschool, weekend, summer and experiential youth programming (K-12)
  • Food programs & security, agriculture and nutrition
  • Clean energy development
  • Environmental education
  • Outdoor access for at-risk populations
  • Mental & behavioral health programming
  • Arts programming for disadvantaged youth
  • Immigrant Services
  • Emergency financial assistance for working families

Lastly, we would like to note that we do not currently have a funding frequency policy in place, but we will consider previous funding frequency in the first round of reviews, as well as when making grant decisions. This does not mean that your application will be declined automatically if you received funding in the previous year, rather it will be a consideration, and it may impact your probability of success. If you represent an organization that received a grant in 2024, we leave the decision to apply in 2025 up to you.
